An unexpected error has occurred

Error You go to a SharePoint site. Click on Site Actions > Site Permissions and you get the below error. You also get the same error if you go to Site Actions > Site Settings > People and Groups > Click on a group > Click New  > Add user. Your SharePoint site backups will fail for the subsite with this issue.
